Free Tax Assistance at the Arlington Public Library

The 2022 tax season is here, and the Arlington Public Library is here to help. They’re partnered with Tax-Aide from AARP to offer free tax preparation assistance. Tax-Aide will be available at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library and the Southwest Branch Library through Tax Day, April 18, 2023. An appointment binder will be available for the public at each location for patrons to fill in their name in an appointment slot. Visit the Arlington Public Library website to learn more.

United Way of Tarrant County is also offering Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), free tax preparation assistance for individuals and households with an annual income of $60,000 or less. Through VITA, qualifying individuals receive quality tax preparation services by IRS-certified volunteers. VITA will offer walk-in appointments at the East Library and Recreation Center from January 23 through April 15 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. And on select Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Learn more about available days.

Arlington Municipal Court Conducts Citation and Warrant Resolution Drive Feb. 21-March 13, 2023

The Arlington Municipal Court will conduct its annual Warrant Resolution drive from Feb. 21 to March 13. Warrant Resolution encourages defendants to voluntarily come into compliance with their outstanding court obligations. Individuals who are concerned that they have an outstanding City of Arlington warrant or have received a violation and are unsure of what options are available, are encouraged to contact the Arlington Municipal Court. If you have an outstanding citation, you are encouraged to call, email, visit the city web page, or come to the court in-person to take the necessary steps to resolve the matter.

Arlington Muslim Advisory Council to Host Communitywide American Muslim Cultural Celebration on March 4, 2023

For the first time ever, the Arlington Mayor’s Muslim Advisory Council and the Levitt Arlington are co-hosting a public cultural celebration, happening from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Levitt Pavilion in Downtown Arlington on Saturday, March 4. Admission is free.

Open to the entire community, the family-friendly American Muslim Cultural Celebration will feature live entertainment and marketplace shopping for art, fashion, and international cuisine.

Eight Arlington Parks to Receive New Playground Structures in 2023

Arlington Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that eight parks across the city are receiving new playground structures in 2023. This replacement project includes new playgrounds located at Don Misenhimer, Clarence Thompson, College Hills, Bowman Springs, Gene Schrickel, Jr., Howard Moore, Dixon W. Holman and Mary and Jimmie Hooper parks. These playgrounds were identified for replacement based on the date they were originally installed. View the replacement schedule and park renderings.

City of Arlington Recruiting Lifeguards for Summer Swim Season Starting at $15/Hour

Arlington Parks and Recreation is “diving into” recruiting lifeguards for the summer with the goal of maximizing operating hours at all city aquatics facilities in summer 2023. The department needs approximately 120 seasonal employees, ranging from pool managers, lifeguards, water safety instructors and cashiers to operate all facilities. Starting pay for lifeguards is $15 an hour and starting pay for cashiers is $10.50 an hour. Learn more about this job opportunity.
