The National Association of Town Watch announced this week that Arlington finished second in its 2022 National Night Out Awards program, which recognizes communities for outstanding participation and engagement during the annual event.
Arlington has placed in the Top 3 for cities with a population of 300,000+ every year since 2015, including first place finishes in 2018, 2020, and 2021.
More than 140 Arlington neighborhoods, organizations, and businesses hosted National Night Out block parties this year. The goal of NNO is to bring together neighbors, community leaders, police, and other city employees in a fun, relaxed environment so they can forge lasting relationships that will help strengthen the community.
“I’m incredibly proud of this department and this community,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “We had more registered parties and greater participation this year than we did a year ago. This is a department that wants to engage with the community it serves -- and this is a community that wants to engage with their police department. Another top three finish is the icing on the cake.”
The awards are based on a variety of factors including overall quality of the event, neighborhood engagement, and law enforcement involvement. Here is a complete list of the 2022 award winners for cities with a population 300,000+ :
