School districts serving students who live in the City of Arlington’s limits received high rankings from the Texas Education Agency this week.
Arlington, Grand Prairie, Kennedale and Mansfield ISDs, whose district boundaries all include portions of the City of Arlington, received “B” ratings for the 2021-2022 school year on the TEA’s A-F Accountability Ratings. Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, whose district boundaries include the Viridian development in north Arlington, received an “A” rating.
The Arlington ISD received an overall grade of 85. The district has focused on three key areas – classroom instruction, summer school and tutoring – to help students recover from the learning loss, Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said in the district’s news release. Thirty-nine schools increased their scores by at least one letter grade and 95% of schools received a rating of A, B or C, the district announced.
“This grade reflects the tireless work our staff has done to help our students make up ground due to the learning loss caused by COVID,” Dr. Cavazos said. “We know this is just one piece of data we can use to improve our district efforts. It hasn’t been easy, and we still have work to do, but I am proud of the effort everyone has put into accelerating student learning.”
Mansfield ISD is a systems-driven district, which Superintendent Dr. Kimberley Cantu said in a news release means it utilizes research-based processes that are proven to show results. “I could not be prouder of the incredible work of our teachers, students and parents. To have this level of achievement during the pandemic, dropping less than two percentage points, is an incredible testament to the emphasis our community puts on educating all students,” Dr. Cantu said. “Our students are growing, but we still have work to do. We are focused on refining our programs and processes with the goal of continuous improvement.”
