Riverside, IL. Long Ridge Action Fund, a leading philanthropic organization committed to supporting social justice and civic engagement initiatives, announced today that it is renewing its funding commitment to EveryLibrary, the national political action committee, to aid its work defending the First Amendment and the right to libraries in the United States.
Long Ridge Action Fund's donation will support EveryLibrary's ongoing efforts to promote and protect the free flow of information and ideas in public libraries. Specifically, the donation will be used to fund anti-censorship campaigns through Fight for the First, its new direct advocacy and education platform, and local pro-library alliances in communities across the country.
"Public libraries are vital community resources that play an essential role in promoting intellectual freedom and fostering a well-informed citizenry," said Danielle Smith, Director of Operations and Grants Management, Long Ridge Action Fund. "We are proud to support EveryLibrary's efforts to help local activists make their voices heard for their library and their Constitutional rights. We are focused on ensuring that these important institutions remain accessible and inclusive for all."
EveryLibrary's work in this area is more important than ever, as many libraries face strident book bans and censorship attempts. Recent incidents include attempts to ban certain books and materials, restrictions on free speech and public discourse, and attempts to limit the diversity of ideas available to library users.
"EveryLibrary is grateful for the support of the Long Ridge Action Fund as we continue our mission to defend the First Amendment rights of library users," said John Chrastka, Executive Director of EveryLibrary. "We see Fight for the First as an effective tool to encourage and support local and statewide campaign organizers. We believe that free and open access to information is a cornerstone of democracy, and we are committed to ensuring that public libraries remain a safe and welcoming space for all."
Long Ridge Action Fund's donation to EveryLibrary is part of a broader commitment to supporting social justice and civic engagement initiatives across the United States. EveryLibrary has a strong track record of defending intellectual freedom in libraries, advocating for access to diverse perspectives and safeguarding the rights of library users to read and think freely. The organization works with library professionals, policymakers, and community members to develop strategies and policies that promote First Amendment principles and protect libraries from censorship and other threats.
