Mayor Byron W. Brown joined representatives from the City of Buffalo Department of Community Services, Buffalo Police Department, The Police Athletic League of Buffalo (PAL), North East Basketball Club and Fidelis Care, to announce registration is open for the first-ever summer session of the Game Changers Youth Basketball Program.
“I am calling on City youth to register today for Game Changers 2022, an impactful and fun program launched by my Administration in 2013”, stated Mayor Brown. “As we expand this program to include a summer session, we hope to offer Game Changers to over two hundred boys and girls (ages 8-18). Game Changers is much more than a basketball program. Game Changers offers youth a free, safe environment to play ball and learn critical life skills.”
Game Changers has historically been offered as a single, six-week session held in late Fall, but program directors have changed the dates to the summer for the 2022 camp. Since its inception in 2013, youth throughout the City of Buffalo have taken part in Game Changer sessions.
The upcoming Game Changers program will take place on Saturdays from July 23rd through August 20th (10am – 1pm) at Masten Park. Rain dates will be on Sundays, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
This summer’s Title Sponsor of the Game Changers program is Fidelis Care with an investment of $2,500 that will enable coaches, motivational leaders, and mentors to reach even more City youth, and help them remain healthy, fit, and active. Fidelis Care’s Sponsorship also includes an end-of-program Awards Ceremony & Pizza Party for Game Changers participants and their families, along with a number of free prize giveaways.
In addition to developing and improving basketball skills, Game Changers participants will meet local elected officials, athletes, educators, and entrepreneurs. The pandemic has especially impacted the lives of youth and Game Changers will provide inspiration and motivation from community leaders to lead kids and teens towards their personal goals.
This free, fun, and motivational program promotes the importance of safe sports play while teaching youth about the importance of fostering positive relationships with adults, mentors, and peers.
The Buffalo PAL is excited to once again partner with Mayor Brown and the City of Buffalo to offer this critical program to our youth. This program will get our youth moving and motivated to stay active the entire summer, while receiving positive reinforcement and career exploration with adult mentors.
