Grant Approved for SPCA

Meeting 11

Town of Hanna recently issues the following announcement.

At the Mar 8, 2022, Town Council meeting, a motion was carried to amend the 2022 operating budget in order to provide an operating grant to the Hanna SPCA. The amount approved in the motion is $7,424.16

In Dec 2021 the SPCA announced a decision to dissolve the society. Hearing this, the annual grant that the Town of Hanna has provided was removed from the budget expenses as it was anticipated that there would be no operation into 2022. In the past, the Town of Hanna has provided an annual operating grant ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 with the contribution consistent at $5,000 the last few years.

Upon the announcement of the dissolution, a group of interested citizens formed with the intent of keeping this service available in the Town of Hanna. The newly elected president, Trevor Kerr attended the Feb council meeting to provide an update on the transition. During the presentation, the Society provided their 2022 budget which showed an operating grant of $5,000 from the Town of Hanna. Even with the grant, the budget showed a deficit of $2,424.16.
