Senator John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming and member of Senate GOP leadership, used his social media platform in early September 2025 to criticize Senate Democrats on several issues including the handling of presidential nominees and broader party policies.

On September 2, Barrasso posted, “The Democrat party of today is the party of high taxes, high prices, and open borders. Democrats are more than just liberal. They are radical. They are extreme. They are dangerous. They are scary.”

The following day, Barrasso addressed Senate procedures regarding presidential nominees: “.@SenateGOP has confirmed 109 sub-cabinet nominees. Democrats have filibustered ALL of them. However, 81 nominees received ZERO Democrat debate. In other words, Senate Democrats declined to come to the floor to discuss 75% of these sub-cabinet nominees.” This statement refers to ongoing partisan disagreements over the pace and process for confirming executive branch officials.

Later that day, he continued his criticism by stating: “President @realDonaldTrump was elected to get America back on track. That means getting his team on the job. When it comes to nominees, Senate Democrats and Chuck Schumer have been missing in action. They have turned advice and consent into stall and delay.” The remarks referenced President Donald Trump’s efforts to fill key government positions during his administration and ongoing conflicts with Democratic senators such as Chuck Schumer.

Senator Barrasso’s comments come amid long-standing disputes between Republicans and Democrats regarding the confirmation process for executive branch appointments—a contentious issue since before 2020 that has involved both parties using procedural tactics to advance or block nominations in the U.S. Senate.
