Senator John Barrasso, a prominent member of the Senate GOP, has taken to social media to voice his opinions on immigration and Medicaid. His recent tweets focus on legislative efforts aimed at reforming these areas.

On June 17, 2025, Senator Barrasso stated that “Catch and release is over. Let’s keep it that way, pass the One Big Beautiful Bill.” This statement suggests a push for continued enforcement of strict immigration policies.

The following day, June 18, he highlighted concerns regarding Medicaid usage by undocumented immigrants. He claimed that “The 1.4 million illegal immigrants on Medicaid strangles Medicaid. They are filling up waiting rooms and clinics.” The senator argues that this situation hampers Americans’ access to healthcare services and criticizes what he perceives as rewarding open borders with Medicaid benefits.

Later on June 18, Barrasso elaborated further on the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” emphasizing its aim to eliminate inefficiencies within government spending. He noted that “The federal government has spent $1.1 TRILLION in improper Medicaid payments in the last decade.” According to him, the bill targets wasteful practices and fraud within the system to protect taxpayers from exploitation.

Additional information for Step 3: The One Big Beautiful Bill is a proposed piece of legislation aimed at overhauling several federal programs with an emphasis on reducing financial mismanagement.
