Senator Cynthia Lummis, who represents Wyoming in the U.S. Senate, posted several statements on August 25, 2025, addressing topics ranging from national parks to American flag desecration and the anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
In her first post at 15:03 UTC, Lummis recognized the anniversary of the National Park Service, writing: “Our national parks remind us of what it means to be faithful stewards of God’s greatest gifts to our nation. Happy birthday, @NatlParkService!” The National Park Service was established on August 25, 1916.
Later that day at 19:50 UTC, she expressed support for actions against flag burning and destruction. Lummis stated: “I fully support @POTUS cracking down on flag burning & destruction. In Wyoming, we honor the American flag, we don’t desecrate it. I urge Democrats & left-wing protesters to stop this grotesque & offensive American flag burning & come together in treating the flag with dignity.” Flag desecration has been a contentious issue in U.S. politics for decades; however, Supreme Court rulings have protected it as a form of free speech under the First Amendment.
In a third post at 20:15 UTC, Lummis referenced the four-year anniversary of an attack during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in multiple American casualties. She wrote: “August 26, 2021 was a harrowing reminder of the consequences of Biden’s failed leadership. Thank you, @POTUS, for honoring Wyoming’s Rylee McCollum, and the other 12 service members who lost their lives in the Afghanistan withdrawal.” The attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport killed thirteen U.S. service members during evacuation efforts.
Cynthia Lummis is Wyoming’s senior U.S. Senator and has served since January 2021.
