U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), the Senate Majority Whip, addressed the Senate Floor after spending August traveling throughout Wyoming, where he met with families and attended local events such as the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, the Dubois Firefighter BBQ, and various pancake festivals. Barrasso discussed his observations from these visits, emphasizing changes over the past year.

He stated, “America is back on track. That is what I heard in every corner of Wyoming…From cutting taxes to securing the border, America today is safer, stronger, and more prosperous than we were when this year began. This is all the result of the work of President Trump and Republicans in Congress.”

Barrasso contrasted current conditions with last year’s concerns from Wyoming residents about high prices and border security. He credited recent Republican-led initiatives for improvements in gas prices, small business optimism, job creation numbers, wage growth, and low inflation rates.

He noted that according to a new analysis by the Tax Foundation, Wyoming families could save $2,400 this year due to tax cuts implemented through what Republicans call the “Working Families Tax Cuts” law. The law also includes provisions eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay for certain workers—potentially increasing take-home pay for groups such as waiters and nurses—and raises the child tax credit while offering seniors a new deduction on Social Security benefits.

Barrasso highlighted specific impacts on agriculture: “At the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, I joined Wyoming families in celebrating our state’s heritage and history. This year, we honored two icons of Wyoming farming and ranching – Doug Miyamoto and Juan Reyes. Republicans’ new law supports our farmers and ranchers.” He pointed to disaster assistance measures for those affected by wildfires or droughts as well as changes intended to help with equipment purchases and inheritance taxes.

The senator criticized Democrats for not supporting these measures: “Yet not a single Democrat voted for these popular policies that are making America safer and more prosperous. Not one.”

Addressing healthcare concerns raised by Democrats regarding rural hospitals, Barrasso said: “Let me set the record straight. Republicans created a $50 billion rural hospital fund…The $50 billion rural hospital fund means real relief for our nation’s rural hospitals.” He claimed Democrats had introduced legislation seeking to eliminate this fund.

On immigration policy changes under Republican leadership compared with prior years under President Biden’s administration—which Barrasso characterized as having led to “open borders”—he said: “President Trump took immediate action to secure the border…Illegal crossings are now at record lows.” The senator also referenced increased investments in border enforcement infrastructure and personnel.

Barrasso concluded by reiterating his central message: “From cutting taxes to securing the border, America today is safer, stronger, and more prosperous than we were when this year began…The people of Wyoming feel the difference – and they are not alone.”
