Sen. John Barrasso, U.S. Senator representing Wyoming and a member of the Republican Party, has posted a series of statements on social media criticizing Senate Democrats for their handling of government funding and its impact on federal employees.

On October 16, 2025, Barrasso wrote: “UPDATE: No, Senate Democrats chose to continue their dangerous political game instead of paying our troops.”

The following day, October 17, 2025, he shared concerns about the consequences for safety and morale among federal workers by quoting an air traffic controller: ‘”The financial anxiety doesn’t just hurt morale, it directly affects safety. Sometimes that small moment where your mind is elsewhere can have serious impacts.”‘ Barrasso added his own comment: “This is the seriousness we face while Democrats continue to play political games.”

On October 18, 2025, Barrasso addressed activist influence within the Democratic Party by stating: “The far-left activist groups are pressuring Democrats to keep the government closed until after their radical, anti-America, “No Kings” rally is over. Senator Schumer is now a puppet of the radical, extreme, dangerous, scary wing of his party.”

Government shutdowns in the United States have historically resulted from budgetary impasses between Congress and the President or between parties within Congress. During such shutdowns, many federal employees are furloughed or required to work without pay until funding is restored. This can affect services including military pay and air traffic control operations.

Barrasso’s comments come amid ongoing negotiations in Congress regarding appropriations bills needed to fund government operations and avoid further disruption for federal employees.
