Sen. John Barrasso, a U.S. Senator from Wyoming and the ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has recently commented on ongoing political tensions in Congress through a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
On October 18, 2025, Barrasso criticized Democratic leadership during the government shutdown, stating: “When Sen. Schumer says, ‘every day gets better for us,’ what he and Democrats are really saying is every day of this shutdown strengthens their alliances with far left activists. The radical left is in control of the Democrat party and they are controlling this shutdown.”
Two days later, on October 20, 2025, Barrasso addressed energy policy, posting: “Republicans are unleashing American energy. ️”
That same day, Barrasso continued his criticism of Senate Democrats amid the ongoing government shutdown with another statement: “The ‘I hate America’ circus has left town. Now are Senate Democrats ready to put an end to their dangerous game? Today, they’ll have an opportunity to reopen the government, pay our troops, and end the hardship on the American people. It’s time to put people over politics.”
The current government shutdown follows a pattern seen in previous years when partisan disagreements over federal funding have led to temporary closures of government services and delayed pay for federal employees and military personnel. As ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Barrasso’s comments about “unleashing American energy” reflect ongoing Republican efforts to promote domestic fossil fuel production as part of their legislative agenda.
Schumer, referenced by Barrasso in his first post, is Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader and a leading figure among Senate Democrats.
