Sen. John Barrasso, U.S. Senator from Wyoming and a member of the Republican Party, used his social media platform on November 6, 2025, to criticize Senate Democrats regarding the ongoing government shutdown.

In a post made at 15:41 UTC, Barrasso wrote, “Senator Schumer and the Democrats have shut down the government to satisfy the radical left of their party. Seeing this country destroyed is the only thing that will satisfy the radical left.”

Later that day at 18:47 UTC, he continued his criticism by stating, “Democrats have already acknowledged the government must reopen. So why do they continue to prolong the pain?”

Barrasso reiterated his position in a subsequent post at 20:19 UTC: “Democrats are inflicting pain on the American people and it cannot continue. This shutdown has hurt our economy, it has hurt the country. The question is how long are Democrats going to prolong the pain?”

Government shutdowns occur when Congress fails to pass appropriations bills or continuing resolutions funding federal government operations and agencies. During such periods, many federal services are halted or limited until an agreement is reached. In past shutdowns, both major political parties have accused each other of responsibility for prolonged negotiations and impacts on citizens.

Schumer refers to Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, who serves as Senate Majority Leader for the Democratic Party.
