Sen. John Barrasso, a U.S. Senator from Wyoming and member of the Republican Party, posted several statements on his X (formerly Twitter) account on November 7, 2025, addressing recent political developments related to border security and the ongoing government shutdown.

In an early afternoon post, Barrasso credited President Biden with taking decisive action at the southern border. “.@POTUS took immediate action to secure the border, end the chaos, and protect the American people. Promises made. Promises kept.” (November 7, 2025)

Later that day, Barrasso criticized Democratic Senators from Georgia and Michigan in connection with the impacts of the government shutdown. He wrote: “Soldiers are working without pay at Ft. Benning in Georgia. Where are the two Democrat Senators from Georgia? A single mom in Michigan is struggling to put food on the table. Where are the two Democrat Senators from Michigan? The costs of the Democrat shutdown continue to grow.” (November 7, 2025)

In another post that evening, Barrasso referenced remarks by Senator Chris Murphy regarding reopening federal operations amid partisan disagreements: “.@ChrisMurphyCT: ‘reopening the government would do substantial damage to the Democrats’ brand.’ Their ‘brand’ means more to Senate Democrats than 42 million hungry Americans, the service members who aren’t getting paid, than safety in the skies. America deserves better.” (November 7, 2025)

The current government shutdown has resulted in disruptions for federal employees and military personnel who are not receiving pay during this period. Additionally, food assistance programs have been impacted by lapses in funding during past government shutdowns.

Senator John Barrasso serves as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and has frequently commented on national security and fiscal issues.
