Sen. John Barrasso, a U.S. Senator from Wyoming and member of the Senate GOP leadership, made several statements on his social media account regarding recent legislative developments and party positions.
On September 17, 2025, Barrasso addressed what he described as a period of obstruction in the Senate, stating: “Democrat obstruction ends today.
@SenateGOP will break the blockade and move America forward.
Tomorrow, we will vote on a group of 48 nominees that received bipartisan support. Democrats can vote no, but the obstruction is over.” He attributed delays in confirming nominees to Democratic opposition but indicated that votes would proceed on a slate of candidates with bipartisan backing.
Later that same day, Barrasso referenced energy policy in another post: “Another great example of how our One Big Beautiful Bill is unleashing Wyoming energy and will help lower prices for American families.” The senator highlighted legislation he supports that aims to increase domestic energy production and reduce costs for consumers.
On September 18, 2025, Barrasso commented on proposals from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer: “Let’s be clear, the Schumer plan is the shutdown plan.”
The remarks come amid ongoing partisan disputes over federal nominations and government funding. In recent years, delays in confirming executive branch nominees have become more common due to heightened partisanship in the Senate. Disagreements over government spending bills have also led to repeated threats of federal shutdowns as both parties negotiate budget priorities.
Barrasso’s comments reflect broader Republican criticism of Democratic strategies regarding nominations and appropriations. As ranking member on key committees related to energy policy, Barrasso has frequently advocated for measures intended to boost Wyoming’s fossil fuel industries and lower national energy prices.
