Sen. John Barrasso, a Republican senator from Wyoming and chair of the Senate Republican Conference, has recently posted a series of statements on his social media account criticizing Democratic leadership and their approach to ongoing legislative negotiations.

On October 20, 2025, Barrasso stated: “Chuck Schumer is now the puppet of the radical, extreme, dangerous, scary wing of his party. Seven months ago radical left Democrats said Sen. Schumer should ‘step aside.’ What’s changed? He started toeing the line of the far left.”

The following day, on October 21, 2025, Barrasso commented on the ongoing government shutdown: “Under President Biden, Democrats passed 13 CRs. What’s changed? Radical left Democrats are calling the shots and they are taking names. Democrats know they could end the shutdown today, but they are ‘terrified of getting the guillotine’ from the far-left activist groups.”

Later that same day, Barrasso expressed appreciation for a meeting with President Biden at the White House: “Thank you @POTUS for having @SenateGOP at the @WhiteHouse today.”

Barrasso’s comments come amid heightened partisan tensions over government funding and leadership within Congress. As chair of the Senate Republican Conference and a frequent spokesperson for GOP policy positions in the Senate, Barrasso has been an outspoken critic of both Democratic leadership and President Joe Biden’s administration.

Congress has faced repeated budget impasses in recent years resulting in short-term continuing resolutions (CRs) to fund federal agencies. The most recent dispute centers around demands from different factions within both parties regarding spending priorities and policy riders.
