Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Chair of the Senate Western Caucus, has introduced a resolution to designate October 4, 2025, as National Energy Appreciation Day. The resolution aims to recognize the contributions of workers in the domestic energy sector.

The resolution is cosponsored by Senators John Barrasso (R-WY), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Ted Cruz (R-TX), John Hoeven (R-ND), Jon Husted (R-OH), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Jim Justice (R-WV), James Lankford (R-OK), Jim Risch (R-ID), and Tim Scott (R-SC).

“This is the time for American energy dominance,” said Lummis. “After a four-year war on the west, President Trump unleashed American energy, opening our lands and resources to production and empowering our workers. I am proud to lead my colleagues in introducing this resolution that celebrates American energy independence, and the men and women throughout the west who are powering our lives.”

Senator Barrasso highlighted Wyoming’s role in national energy production. “In Wyoming, we know firsthand how American energy production fuels American success,” he said. “Wyoming is America’s energy breadbasket. Our workers produce the energy and resources that keep America running and our economy strong. Wyoming will proudly lead the way in celebrating National Energy Appreciation Day.”

Senator Capito spoke about ongoing investments in energy infrastructure. “We are in a vital moment for American energy, and our skilled and dedicated energy workforce deserves our support and recognition now more than ever,” she said. “Under the leadership of the Trump administration, we have made crucial investments in pursuit of American energy dominance to meet growing electricity demands and power our country into the future. I see this across my home state of West Virginia, as our energy production continues to keep homes warm, lights on, and spur economic development throughout our local communities. This energy infrastructure wouldn’t be possible without the energy workers on the ground who work tirelessly for the benefit of our people and our nation.”

Senator Cassidy emphasized national benefits from domestic production: “President Trump is focused on unleashing American energy—so am I,” he said.“American energy dominance means peace, a strong economy, and a better life for the American family. The people who work every day toward that goal are worth celebrating.”

Senator Crapo called attention to Idaho’s contributions: “This Energy Day, I celebrate Idaho’s immense contributions to the production of home-grown energy,” he said.“It is vital we shore up domestic energy supply chain production to reduce the influence of foreign countries like China. We must work together to find collaborative solutions to our nation’s overall energy needs and an ‘all of the above’ energy strategy that promotes our energy independence and national security.”

Senator Cruz discussed recent policy changes: “Energy and prosperity are inseparable, and America’s energy producers drive the growth and strength of our nation,” he said.“The American oil and gas industry, led by Texas producers, is the backbone of our economy and supports millions of hardworking families. The Biden-Harris administration pursued a climate agenda that disregarded these basic facts and undermined American energy production, but now with President Trump in the White House and a Republican congress we are restoring American energy. I am proud to join Senator Lummis and my fellow Republican Senators in introducing this resolution.”

Senator Hoeven stated: “”This resolution honors the hardworking Americans who power our nation,” he said.“Under President Trump’s leadership, we’ve cut burdensome regulations, expanded access to taxpayer-owned lands and minerals, and strengthened domestic energy production. Celebrating these achievements on National Energy Appreciation Day highlights the critical role our energy workers play in driving economic growth, securing our future and maintaining energy dominance.”

Finally, Senator Hyde-Smith commented on workforce efforts: “Unleashing American energy is essential to our nation’s strength and security, and it would not be possible without the hardworking men and women who power every part of the industry,” she said.“From our offshore rigs and oil fields to our power plants, their work fuels our economy, lights our cities, cools our homes, and delivers the cleanest, safest, and most reliable energy in the world.”
