U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) has introduced the $2.50 for America’s 250th Act, a bill aimed at commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The legislation directs the Secretary of Treasury to mint and issue both $2.50 numismatic coins and $2.50 circulating coins.

Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Alex Padilla (D-CA) joined Lummis in sponsoring the Senate bill. In the House of Representatives, Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-04) has introduced companion legislation.

“As America’s 250th birthday approaches, my legislation revives a 100-year-old tradition that celebrates our founding principles and joins a new generation of Americans with those who celebrated our nation’s founding 100 years ago,” said Lummis. “I am proud to work with my colleagues in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to celebrate the values we hold so dear and create a lasting tribute families can treasure for generations.”

A copy of the bill is available online.
