Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) has responded to reports that her communications, along with those of nearly a dozen other Republican senators, were monitored by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during the Biden administration.

“I’m absolutely appalled that the Biden administration used the FBI to spy on the private communications of Republican U.S. Senators – myself included,” said Lummis. “This was a blatant assault on our constitutional rights as elected officials and a calculated attempt to sabotage the separation of powers. Make no mistake: this authoritarian, unconstitutional surveillance and attack on the legislative branch under the Biden administration demands immediate investigation and prosecution. Those responsible must be held accountable, and we must ensure this abuse of power can never happen again.”

According to information obtained by the Senate Judiciary Committee, an FBI document revealed that eight Republican senators’ personal cell phones were targeted for “tolling data” collection as part of an investigation known as Arctic Frost. A Republican member of the House of Representatives was also reportedly affected. The Arctic Frost investigation provided evidence used in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case regarding electors for former President Donald Trump.
