Town of Hanna recently issued the following announcement.

Once a week, leading up to Emergency Preparedness Week in May, we will be sharing some things you could be doing to prepare for an unexpected event. You will be seeing #BePrepared used locally, regionally, and provincially. Each week we will give you one small step to becoming more prepared.

Did you know that only 38% of Albertans are aware of the risks in their own community? Common hazards such as severe weather and fire can quickly lead to large disruptions. Being aware of the different hazards in Hanna can help you take the right steps to reduce your risk.

Take one minute to watch this video.

Start thinking about what the different unexpected events in Hanna might be and then you will be able to prepare. Here are some we identified:

  • Power outages – Visit ATCO’s Power Outages section of their website. You can see an Outage Map, How to Report an Outage, Outage Tips (#BePrepared), and Report a Streetlight Problem. Don’t wait until the power is out to visit the link.
  • Floods – ensure downspout drainage moves water away from your property.
  • Blizzards, freezing rain, ice storms, and extreme cold.
  • Chemical releases.
  • High winds and tornadoes.
  • Wildfires.
  • Health events like a pandemic
  • Thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rain, and hail

What else might be a hazard for Hanna? #BePrepared by being aware.

Register for Hanna Alerts

The Town of Hanna alert system is used to issue alerts in the event of an emergency or an event that may impact you. You will receive a time-sensitive text message and phone call on your mobile phone. If you have provided a landline number, you will receive a phone call with an automated voice. Notifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Public Safety Alerts such as water, fire, RCMP, or any event which is considered an immediate threat to the safety and well-being of some or all Hanna residents.
  • Local events such as water supply issues or snow removal schedules based on your residential address.

NOTE: This does NOT replace the Alberta Emergency Alert. Register today for the notification alerts by visiting Hanna Alert System on our website. A test alert will be issued during National Emergency Preparedness week in May.
