East Arlington Water Main Renewals Completed

Arlington Water Utilities recently completed a $1.6 million water main renewal project in East Arlington. Construction on the 2020 Water Main Replacement Project started earlier this year. The project included the replacement of 9,400 linear feet, or about 1 3/4 – miles, of 6-inch and 8-inch asbestos cement and cast-iron water mains along various residential streets in East Arlington.

The new water mains are made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, which is a non-corrosive and flexible pipe suitable for high pressure pipelines.

The streets involved in the 2020 Water Main Replacements project were:

  • 1700-1900 blocks of Briar Meadow Drive
  • 1600-1800 block of Wickersham Drive
  • 1600 block of Twin Post Drive
  • 1600-1700 block of Coronado Street
  • 1800-1900 block of Chalice Road
  • 1700-1800 block of Redwood Street
  • 1400-1500 block of Harvest Hill Lane

Existing pipe were replaced through a method called, static pipe bursting. This is a process where crews dig holes on both ends of the existing pipe section. Then, the new pipe is pushed through the existing pipe. A bursting head fractures the existing main as the new main moves into place.

This bursting method saves significant amounts of construction time and is less disruptive to residents and businesses. The upgrade will improve service to the affected neighborhoods. It also included the upgrade of existing water meters to remotely read meters, which can be monitored online at ArlingtonTX.gov/KnowYourH2O.

Murphy Pipeline Contractors, Inc. was the contractor for the 2020 Water Main Replacements. The project had 24% participation by minority-owned businesses.
