U.S. Senators John Barrasso and Bill Cassidy have introduced the LNG Security Act, a bill aimed at reversing President Biden's decision to halt new American liquefied natural gas (LNG) export approvals. The legislation seeks to support energy-producing states like Wyoming and Louisiana, where a significant number of impacted LNG export facilities are located.

In a statement, Senator Barrasso expressed his concerns about the impact of President Biden's decision, stating, "President Biden’s decision to stop approving LNG exports is a disaster. We already know LNG exports are good for American workers, our economy, our national security, and the planet. We don’t need a new study to make that clear." He emphasized that the bill aims to prevent allies and partners from being forced to import energy from countries like Russia, Iran, and Qatar.

Senator Cassidy also criticized the Biden administration, stating, "Biden continues his war on the American worker." He called on the Department of Energy to finalize permits for projects affected by the LNG export freeze, particularly those in Louisiana.

The LNG Security Act includes provisions such as requiring the Department of Energy to approve all LNG exports to countries importing natural gas from Russia or Iran, setting a deadline for decision-making on export applications, and relocating litigation related to LNG export authorizations to the Circuit Court where the facility is located.

The bill is designed to support American energy production and protect jobs in states heavily reliant on LNG exports.
